What a SPIN tells you

The SPIN is the join key of the E-Rate program. Every Funding Request Number (FRN) on a Form 471 names the provider by SPIN, which means a SPIN traces a provider's entire funded footprint: which applicants they serve, in which states, for which service categories, and how it has changed year over year.

Large providers often hold multiple SPINs, segmented by state, subsidiary, or acquisition. If a provider you expect to find looks smaller than it should, check for sibling SPINs under related names. For the full research workflow, see How to Research an E-Rate Provider, and for reading the demand side of the market, see FCC Form 470 Explained.

SPIN lookup: common questions

What is a SPIN number?
A SPIN (Service Provider Identification Number) is the nine-digit ID USAC assigns to a service provider when it files an FCC Form 498. Every E-Rate and RHC funding request identifies its provider by SPIN, so a provider's entire funded history ties back to this number. Most active SPINs begin with 143.
How do I look up a SPIN number?
Type the provider's name or SPIN in the search box above. Each result opens the provider's profile with committed funding, customers, category mix, and activity by year, all aggregated from public USAC filings.
Is a SPIN the same as a 498 ID?
They are the same identifier. USAC now refers to it as the service provider's 498 ID because it is assigned through the FCC Form 498, but E-Rate filings, tools, and everyday usage still call it the SPIN.
How do I find which provider serves a school district?
Every district profile on FRNHQ ranks the district's providers by committed funding. Find the district through our E-Rate funding pages by state, or search a provider here and review its customer footprint.
